Man dies in one-car interstate crash

An early-morning, one-car crash in Morris County has claimed the life of an Indiana man.

According to state troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred at 7:52 a.m. Aug. 12 on Interstate Highway 30 west of U.S. Highway 259. A preliminary investigation indicates that a 2001 Honda CRV traveling eastbound, driven by Todd Wright, 43, of Shelbyville, Indiana, left the roadway into a body of water and became submerged.

Wright was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Wright’s passenger, Francis Applegate, 69, also of Shelbyville, Indiana, died at the scene. He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Jennifer Easley. Applegate’s body was later taken to Harrison Funeral Home in Naples.

While the crash remains under investigation, there is currently no additional information available.
