Downtown wreck involves deputy vehicle

Two drivers were able to walk away without major injuries after their vehicles collided near downtown Mount Pleasant Wednesday.

The accident occurred just after 4:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at the intersection of Alabama St.  and Van Buren Ave. near the post office and the election office.  A white Dodge hybrid SUV, driven by an unidentified female driver, was headed eastbound on Van Buren Ave. The driver apparently failed to stop and continued through the intersection hitting a Titus County Sheriff Office deputy cruiser driven by Civil Division Sergeant Rendy Barrett. Sgt. Barrett was traveling eastbound on Alabama St. at the time of the accident.  Both vehicles came to a stop near an embankment just below rows of campaign signs.

Fortunately, neither driver required medical transport as a result of the wreck which is currently under investigation by the Department of Public Safety.
