Mount Pleasant ISD trustees vote to end remote learning

The Mount Pleasant ISD Board of Trustees recently unanimously voted to discontinue remote learning as an option for students beginning Monday, November 2.  Remote learning will still be available for students who are ill or who are under quarantine orders from a physician.  Parents can also seek a waiver for students with pre-existing medical conditions by obtaining a letter from the child’s physician.

According to a letter from MPISD Superintendent, Judd Marshall, reasons for the decision included failure rates for remote learners during the first grading period, poor attendance rates for remote learners and data indicating remote learners are getting further behind academically.

“Our teachers, staff, and administrators have worked very hard to provide remote and in-person instruction, and I am grateful to them for the commitment they have shown to our outstanding school district,” Marshall said. “They have worked tirelessly throughout this pandemic to do what is best for all students and I cannot thank them enough for their efforts.  We are a model district and a great example to other schools because of our educators.  We will continue to educate each student to the best of our ability, and it is our hope that you will continue to use Mount Pleasant ISD as your school of choice.”

Parents who do not wish to send their students back to school can withdraw them to homeschool or enroll them in another school district that offers remote learning.  Questions should be directed to the campus where the child attends school.

Mount Pleasant ISD, the first in the Tri-County area to end remote learning, joins other area districts that have cancelled the online learning format since the 2020-2021 school year began.  The following districts in East Texas have either already “pulled the plugged” on the remote learning format or plan to do so soon like Mount Pleasant ISD:
