Pirates’ soccer team wins top honors

   Although the school year was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pittsburg Pirates soccer team finished the season with outstanding honors.  Winning both tournaments during the year, the boys squad started with a 7-0 record and ranked #1 in the state. Their overall season ended with a 16-4-1 record. The Pirates netted 86 goals only giving up seven total. With a winning percentage of 0.786, the team set a school record. The Pirates finished second in district behind the Paris team which finished 19-1-1. The Wildcats beat the Pirates 1-0 scoring in the 98th minute of double overtime.

    The Pirates finished  the season ranked #7 in regionals by TASCO Soccer and finished 11th in the state according to MaxPreps. A total of four seniors received awards for Academic All-State and more players made the All-District team than ever before.

   “I am very proud of this team and how they represented their home town,” Coach Jody Loewen said. “They have a lot of pride and their dedication to this game is unmatched. I am going to miss the seniors next year, but I know that they are going to do great things in life.”
