Mount Pleasant man arrested in shooting

A suspect is now in custody following a midday shooting in Mount Pleasant March 10.

At approximately 11:44 a.m. Wednesday, officers for the Mount Pleasant Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Capers St. Upon arrival, officers discovered an 18-year-old male injured due to a single gunshot to the chest. First aid was administered until EMS personnel arrived and transported the victim to the local hospital. The victim was later airlifted to another area hospital and is currently listed in stable condition. Officers then detained multiple witnesses and later booked one suspect, Latron Jeffery, 21, of Mount Pleasant, into the Titus County Jail charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and tampering with evidence. Officers, who later recovered two handguns, are still investigating the shooting. Bond was set at $5,000 for each charge and Jeffery was released March 13.
